Master the Art of the Neutral. Build a Career in Resolution.
Conflict is inevitable, but resolution is a skill. Whether you are looking to start a private mediation practice, enhance your current career, or simply become the most effective communicator in the room, the Conflict Management Institute (CMI) provides the definitive Texas mediator roadmap.
Our 40-hour course isn't just a lecture series; it's a high-intensity, "learning-by-doing" experience designed to turn you into a confident mediator in just five days.
THE CMI DIGITAL ADVANTAGE
The CMI Digital Portal No more heavy 3-ring binders or lost handouts. The moment you register, you gain access to our Conflict Management Institute (CMI) Digital Portal. This is your one-stop shop for:
- Your Digital Training Manual: A fully searchable, modern guide to Texas mediation.
- The Master TMCA Bibliography: A curated library of the essential laws, ethical codes, and foundational books (including the Texas ADR Act and Ethical Guidelines) required by the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association.
- Tactical "Cheat Sheets": Digital tools you can pull up on your tablet or laptop during a real mediation.
The Power of the Live Classroom: Collaborative Learning at CMI
The Conflict Management Institute (CMI) 40-Hour Basic Mediation Training is designed as a synchronous, interactive intensive. We believe that the most effective way to master mediation is through live engagement, real-time feedback, and the shared experience of a professional cohort.
Commitment to Professional Standards
To align with the standards required for TMCA credentialing and the expectations of the Texas legal community, full participation is essential.
Attendance & Engagement: Participants are required to be present and on camera for the full 40 hours of the course. This consistent presence ensures that everyone can fully engage in the mandated role-plays and benefit from the supervised practice that defines our program.
Learning Through Representative Scenarios
Our curriculum balances foundational theory with Representative Practice Scenarios. Rather than just observing, you will actively rotate through the roles of Mediator and Disputant in simulations designed to mirror the complexities of the Texas legal landscape.
These scenarios offer hands-on experience in areas such as:
- 🚗 Personal Injury & Auto: Navigating liability, damages, and insurance dynamics.
- 🏢 Commercial Dissolution: Resolving partnership disputes and the division of business assets.
- 🏗️ Construction & Property: Facilitating "who-is-at-fault" discussions in multi-party conflicts.
- 🏡 HOA & Neighborhood: Resolving community-based disputes over rules and rights.
- 💼 Employment Matters: Managing the sensitive dynamics of workplace and termination discussions.
- 📜 Probate & Estates: Facilitating resolution in family legacy and inheritance disputes.
Build Authentic Confidence
By the final afternoon, you will have successfully facilitated multiple mediation simulations with supportive, constructive feedback from our instructors. Our goal is to ensure you leave the program with the practical skills and the confidence needed to facilitate your first dispute on Day One.

A Live, Interactive Learning Experience
The CMI 40-Hour Basic Mediation Training is a live, cohort-based program delivered entirely online. We combine real-time instruction with active participation to ensure you gain the practical skills needed to mediate effectively. This is an "all-in" experience where you and your peers learn, practice, and grow together in a supportive digital environment.
Professional Certification & Compliance
To maintain the high standards required for your professional credentials, full participation is key. Our curriculum is designed to meet the 40-hour requirements established by the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association (TMCA), as well as SHRM and HRCI professional development benchmarks.
- Completion Requirement: In accordance with state and professional standards, a certificate of completion is awarded only to those who attend the full 40 hours of instruction.

- Presence: To simulate a true professional environment and facilitate connection, we require participants to have their cameras on during the live sessions.
Simple Technical Readiness
Our goal is to make the learning process as seamless as possible. You don't need a high-tech studio—just the basics to ensure you can see, hear, and contribute to the conversation.
- Any Zoom-Capable Device: You can join us from a desktop, laptop, or tablet. If your device can run the Zoom app or the Zoom web browser version with a working camera and microphone, you are ready to go.
- Stable Connection: A reliable internet connection will ensure you don't miss any of the key insights or breakthrough moments during our simulations.
- A Quiet Space: Whenever possible, join us from a quiet area where you can focus and participate in the negotiations without distractions. This also helps maintain the privacy and "confidentiality" of our practice sessions.

Is this certification available On-Demand
The Power of the Live Classroom: Why CMI Does Not Offer On-Demand Training
The Conflict Management Institute (CMI) 40-Hour Basic Mediation Training is deliberately designed as a live, interactive intensive rather than an on-demand, pre-recorded course. This is a commitment to the professional standards required for TMCA credentialing and the high-stakes reality of the Texas legal system.
The 40-Hour "Camera-On" Requirement
To meet the rigorous standards of the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association (TMCA), 100% synchronous attendance is required. > Mandatory Presence: Participants must be visible on camera for the full duration of the 40-hour course. This ensures active engagement, verifies participation in mandated role-plays, and maintains the integrity of the learning environment.
A Skill That Requires Human Feedback
Mediation is a high-touch, emotionally nuanced art form. It requires the ability to navigate evolving human dynamics, subtle power imbalances, and intense emotional undercurrents in real-time. These are experiences that simply cannot be replicated through a static screen or a pre-recorded video.
Practice-Driven Mastery
In accordance with Chapter 154 of the Texas Practice and Remedies Code, a mediator must be prepared to handle a diverse range of disputes with impartiality and skill. Our program’s core strength lies in:
- Real-Time, Facilitator-Guided Simulations: Immediate "in-the-moment" coaching during our intensive role-play sessions.
- Dynamic Peer Debriefs: Collaborative analysis of why a specific negotiation tactic succeeded or hit a wall.
- Adaptive Coaching: Direct feedback from instructors that helps you refine your "Mediator’s Voice" and master the 9-step architecture of the mediation process.
Authentic Confidence for Day One
The TMCA’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics are not just rules to be memorized—they are professional behaviors to be lived. Only a live, synchronous cohort environment ensures that you gain authentic confidence, refine your techniques through constructive critique, and leave fully prepared to facilitate complex disputes on Day One.
Because the legal and human stakes in Texas mediation are so high, on-demand delivery is fundamentally incompatible with our commitment to transformative, practice-driven mastery.
